Double Trouble

wow, two post in a day, but had to.

how the F**k did this pass me by?

Monday Monday

Ok, so it does sound remarkably like Beach House and no doubt in a few months 6music are going to be all over this band like a rash and I'll get sick through exposure, but right now, with the sun beating down on Alex towers, this is pretty hard to beat.

Electric Lucifer

And you thought Kraftwerk invented electro/techno music whilst Brian Eno invented Ambient.

Shame on you (*me*)

Tone Soul Revolution

i'm a fan of vocal melodies that mimic the guitar line, sort of a more cosmic double track. Anyways here's a pretty cool example from Unknown Mortal Orchestra. The album's a must for fans of the lo-fi psychedelia al a Elephant 6

Talking of Elephant 6 artists, Olivia Tremor Control - wheres't art though now? i remember their first album came on a double CD, claiming that if they were played at the same time would produce quadraphonic sound.

It didn't.

However this song was a fixture around the time ('96) and is a lot more fun than their more 'celebrated' label-mates

Actually, think i may now have more psychedelic revival records in my collection than ones from the original period. Think this is the first (revival) one i bought

Today

I have a hangover for playing on www.turntable.fm too late and too drunkenly, however am finding this very soothing. Like if Broadcast had tried to write a song to get on Radio 1. (NB the video is NOT soothing)

RIP Trish Keenan, never forgotten

Did I Mention

that this song features on the best album i've heard in bloody years?

Go buy.

Sparks Fly

Beachwood Sparks are the best country-rock revivalist band ever. Fact. When i saw them live back in 2001 (i was their press officer in the UK) i had to wipe away a tear, worried that somebody might see and think i was a softie.

If you get a chance dig out any of their 3 highly underrated albums, 'Once We Were Trees' especially, is astonishing.

New Jamz on Friday

some more new stuff to mull over.

Hotel Mexico, confusingly enough are from Japan. So, listening to this I immediately found myself pining to listen to Cornelius, but stopped myself long enough to listen to this. And i'm glad i did. This new single sounds like Pinky & Perky jamming with Stereolab produced by Caribou. Lazy, journalistic references ahoy!

if you like this teaser and you're one of those crazy people who still like to 'own' music, grab it via GorillaVsBear here http://cdn03.cdn.gorillavsbear.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/01-Dear-Les-Friends.mp3

Guess what? I liked a new band so much i actually asked if i could work with them. Thankfully, they said yes.
Live they remind me of, variously Big Star, Peter Gabriel, Beechwood Sparks and Mercury Rev, although this song is a bit like if Buffalo Springfield had come back and discovered grunge.

Last weekend i had to go to London which meant for about the third time now i missed Thee Oh Sees perform in Manchester. By the time i do get to see them, i think my excitement for seeing them may lead to me being slightly let down. Or they could just rock me to the motherfucking ground.

There's a new album out (now?) soon, but in the meantime, this is always worth a watch.
